Jemimah Njuki, IFPRI’s Director for Africa, has been named one of the 100 Most Influential People in Gender Policy 2021 by Apolitical, the peer-to-peer learning platform for government.
In 2020, Dr. Njuki was named by the UN Food Systems Special Envoy as Custodian for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment for the UN Food Systems Summit 2021. She has worked for more than 20 years in gender equality and women’s empowerment in Africa and Asia. Prior to joining IFPRI, she led the Growth and Economic Opportunities program at Canada’s International Development Research Centre, the Women in Agriculture Program at CARE USA, and the Poverty, Gender, and Impact Program at ILRI. She is the Convener of the East and Southern Africa Gender and Livelihoods Network, and the founding Editor of the Journal of Gender, Agriculture and Food Security, a journal that promotes the voices of scientists from the global south working on gender equality.
