The world needs food systems that delivers healthy, safe and nutritious food to all people, everywhere, tackles climate change, protects nature, and ensures a living wage for all farmers and food workers regardless of their role in the system.
For this goal to become a reality, we need to bring the voices of all stakeholders to the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit. The Summit is for everyone everywhere: a people’s summit. It is also a solutions summit that will require broad, collective action to bring about tangible and positive changes to the world’s food systems.
Women have a key role to play in the Summit process and their voices and leadership are critical. Tackling gender injustice and truly empowering women is not only a fundamental prerequisite for food systems transformation but also a goal in itself. The UNFSS Gender Lever of Change aims to work with all actors to achieve gender just, transformative and equitable food systems that guarantee a world without hunger for all. It seeks to ensure that women from all around the world – working in and leading food systems - are represented, engaged and have their voices heard in all the processes of the Summit.
Get involved
As a continuation of the Summit’s global engagement, the Action Track Public Forums and the Regional Gender Dialogues, the Summit will now host a Public Forum on Gender.
Specifically, this Forum aims to:
- Provide an update of the latest Summit progress (e.g. emerging Action Areas and Solution Clusters, next steps, etc.) and on the proposals to make food systems more gender equitable.
- Seek inputs from participants by identifying existing gaps, recommendations on emerging gender solution areas, and suggestions for actions.
- Mobilize broader participation across the globe in coalitions to implement gender and food systems proposals.
