by ssseck | 18 July 2022

The CGIAR has launched the National Policies and Strategies (NPS) for Food, Land, and Water Systems Transformation. NPS has been co-created with national and international partners with the main objectives of building policy coherence, responding to crises, and integrating policy tools at national and subnational levels in six countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America; Nigeria, India, Colombia, Kenya, Laos and Egypt. Under this initiative, IFPRI and other CGIAR centres are organizing the NPS Seminar Series.

July 20, 2022
12:00 –14:00 East Africa Time

Many countries including Kenya are affected by the impacts of the Ukraine and Global Crisis. Prices across a range of commodities including in fertilizers, edible oils, and maize, as well as oil, natural gas and other energy products have risen sharply (some predating the war). How are these sharp international price increases impacting Kenya and its people, and how can the Kenyan Government respond? This joint seminar will present KIPPRA’s and IFPRI’s recent model-based studies on how the crisis is impacting economic growth, the food system, jobs and household welfare in Kenya. The seminar will also present model-based results on the expected impacts of alternative policy options to mitigate the impacts of the crisis. These policy options include fertilizer and energy subsidies; trade policies and targeted social protection measures to protect the poorest.

The seminar will bring together policy makers, civil society, media, public sector, private sector, and other stakeholders within the country and globally to discuss policy options for the impacts of the Ukraine and Global Crisis on Food Systems and Poverty in Kenya.

This Event can be followed online Link.
