Ghana enters the Kampala Declaration implementation period with strong institutional foundations, extensive experience with the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP), and well-established systems for agricultural planning, sector review, and stakeholder engagement. Building on progress made during the Malabo Declaration era, the country is now positioned to accelerate the transformation of its agrifood systems through more inclusive, resilient, nutrition-sensitive, and market-oriented approaches.

Recent analytical work, however, highlights persistent challenges. Agricultural productivity remains below potential, public investment in agrifood systems falls short of the CAADP benchmark, irrigation coverage is limited, post-harvest losses remain high, and agro-processing and value addition continue to be underdeveloped. Women, youth, smallholder farmers, and agrifood SMEs also face significant barriers to accessing land, finance, technology, services, and markets.

This two-day national workshop will bring together policymakers, researchers, private sector representatives, farmers’ organizations, women’s and youth groups, civil society, development partners, financial institutions, traditional authorities, and the media to validate key analytical findings and build consensus on Ghana’s agrifood systems transformation agenda under the Kampala Declaration.

Participants will review evidence from the Ghana Status Assessment and Profile, economywide analysis, Policy and Program Opportunities report, and national agricultural investment planning processes. Discussions will focus on identifying strategic priorities, strengthening alignment between the Kampala Declaration and Ghana’s national development agenda—including Feed Ghana—and agreeing on practical actions, institutional responsibilities, financing priorities, and accountability mechanisms to support effective implementation.

The workshop will also provide an opportunity for stakeholders to validate the evidence, exchange perspectives on implementation challenges and opportunities, and contribute to the development of a nationally owned roadmap for advancing Ghana’s agrifood systems transformation.
